Streaming audio advertising will likely start to hit
their stride in 2001 because of software such as
AdAcoustics that use offline data and registration data
to target and insert audio ads in audio streams. These
audio ads can be inserted into Internet-only streams or
into the streams over local ads of radio stations.
Audio ads have the potential to have considerably more
impact and effectiveness that banner ads by their very
nature. Because of their targetability and impact their
CPM would theoretically be higher. That remains to be
seen. Expect initial CPM levels to be anywhere from $50
to $150. The market and the success of audio ads will
determine where the CPMs actually wind up.
