Hello Dilip,

I noticed your post (Online Ads digest 29 Dec 2000) and
decided to visit your site, as I follow international
Internet business trends. The white paper on online
advertising (http://www.intercept.co.in/res_1_4.pdf) is
quite good, but I was a bit surprised by the figures on
US online advertising spending, indicating that it will
reach 5% of total US ad spend in 2001 (USD 6.7*10E9
against total US ad spend of $127*10E9).

Do you know if these are Forrester numbers? Their 1999
study projects worldwide US$33*10E9 --$22 for the US
alone-- by 2004, maybe a bit optimistic? Emarketer
puts 2001 US online spend at ~ 2% of total, but they
may use a narrower definition of online advertising
(e.g., only counting banner ads and not including
sponsored newsletters etc.). Anyone on the list have
thoughts on what the best numbers are?

(not trying to be confusing with the exponents, but I
know "billion" means something quite different in the
UK and India :-/ )
