The book that I used to introduce myself to internet
marketing is called "The Insider Secrets to Marketing
your Business on the Internet" by Corey Rudl.
It starts off with a gentle introduction about some
basic concepts to understand, then goes to talking
about designing your website, writing sales copy,
banner advertising, e-mail, newsletters, search
engines, competitive intelligence, starting your own
associate program, etc. It covers each of these topics
in enough detail that you will be able to start doing
them after reading it, and also you will know where to
go if you want to learn even more.
I found that it gave me a good overview of most areas
of internet marketing, and most importantly, it helped
develop the right mindset for thinking up better ways
of doing things.
The website for the book is here:

I bought it back when it came in two 200-page binders;
nowadays they have an E-book version I believe. They
automatically give you 6 months worth of updates (in
the form of their private internet marketing newsletter
"The Cutting Edge") after you buy the book so that you
don't get outdated.
