Third-party Serving Market

I've been viewing this forum for a few weeks now, and
have found it extremely helpful in getting my arms
around the online advertising marketplace. I have been
assigned with the rather daunting task of discerning
what the market is like in terms of third-party
serving. Are there certain networks that have the
greatest market share (i.e. Doubleclick?)? Is there
room for growth? I thought this forum might be the
place where I could get some answers. If anyone knows
of a good site to find this kind of information, or has
any opinions, I would be very interested in reading
them.
