Email as an effective traffic builder?
We have been promoting our business through traditional
means (direct mail, seminars and telemarketing) for the
past 15 years and know our response rates well.
We have recently launched a website to increase our
market penetration from local to national.
In considering marketing alternatives we are unfamiliar
with expected results and email address reliability.
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could provide
insight into the following:
1. We need to market to parents of 11th and 12th grade
students. However, we have not been able to find a
company to provide email addresses for this targeted
market. What has been offered is the addresses of
parents that are on opt in lists that have supplied
information about their family, i.e. number of children
and ages of children.
Are these opt in lists reliable for such a targeted
market? Do people typically provide truthful
information for these opt in lists? Are the email
addresses typically up to date or stale? Any statistics
of what percentage of people usually open mail from the
opt in lists?
We have the ability to purchase the names of the
parents of 11th and 12th grade student and send direct
mail to the parents which we are very confident is on
target. In addition, the direct mail will have a shelf
life but will not have the immediate ease of just
clicking on the website. Any input about this
tradeoff, immediate click to site vs having to open
letter, go to computer, log on and go to site?
A final option would be to use an automated dialing
machine that would only leave a message on an answering
machine with information and offer to go to the
website. This has proven highly effective for seminars
but never tested to bring people to a website. Anyone
with experience or thoughts here?
Thank you for your input and help.
