In a single stroke, Google has created an opportunity
to more than double their revenues from AdWords for
popular search terms. Obviously they have sufficient
demand from advertisers to justify it.

Will it reduce click through rates for advertisers?

Perhaps, perhaps not. I use Google regularly and have
clicked on an AdWord listing only once. My point is
that users select links if they seem to meet the right
criteria, not simply because they are at the top of the
list. That type of knee jerk reaction has probably
given way to users reading the link explanation before
clicking (well, maybe).

My suspicion is that if it doesn't work or has a
negative effect on advertisers or users, Google will
change the program.

My $ 0.02.
