I don't think quality content reflects the CTR as much
as the type of page. If you place your banner on a
really high quality message board, you're still going
to get dismal CTR numbers. Placing your banner on a
high-content normal page will get you average CTRs
(mostly depending on how well targeted you are).
One thing most people don't realize is that
confirmation pages often deliver extremely high CTRs.
For example, here are my CTRs:
SiteGadgets Member Pages - 1.1%
SiteGadgets Main Site, Targeted - 2.2%
SiteGadgets Main Site, Untargeted - 1.5%
FreeCenter ROS, Targeted - 2.5%
FreeCenter ROS, Untargeted - 2.3%
SiteGadgets and HumorPlanet "confirmation pages", on
the other hand, typically get around 6-10% CTR.
What are confirmation pages? These are pages where the
user has submitted some information (filled out a
form, voted in a poll, etc). A good reason for the
CTR boost is because often visitors have reached the
end of a chain -- with nowhere left to go they're a
little more prone to click on an advertisement.
Anyone else notice this?
