Paid ranking is both good and bad in my opinion. It
helps businesses that have the cash to afford high
rankings for relevant keywords, but it hurts the small
sites that can't afford to pay for such listings.
There are a lot of small sites, not for profit
organizations, government sites, etc. that can't pay
for the listings but have better content than all the
higher paying sites... If all search engines moved to
this model, then these great resources would never be
listed. I myself am somewhere between these two
examples. I have a very small business providing
quality content that is paid for by advertising. I
can't afford to pay more than 1 or 2 cents per click
and get my money back on advertising... Anyway, I just
wanted to point out that there *are* negatives
associated with paid rankings. It leaves the little
guy out of the picture. Don't get me wrong, I do like
the control it gives me over my own search engine
placement.
Take care,
