Text vs HTML in email

I don't recall if it was this list or another one I am on,
but I promised someone I'd get back with some figures on HTML
vs Text in mailing lists. According to Tone Interactive
(www.toneinteractive.com), one of the list-fulfillment
companies a client of mine uses, the best figures are based
on new sign-ups - and it breaks down to 7% AOL, 36% HTML and
57% Text. About what I figured. I do my own lists manually in
Eudora and I never have anyone writing to specifically request
HTML. I can't afford a company like Tone or flonetworks just
yet myself ... but if/when I go to a pre-packaged solution-
provider it would more likely be to get features like content
customization, tracking services etc. Tone's "Intellimail" is
quite robust.

AOL has its own proprietary formatting which is one more
nightmare they quite deliberately cause for list managers. I
say "Let them pick text," myself.

Kind regards,
