How to send your newsletter to large numbers of people

On sending a newsletter to your opt-in customers:

The best solution seems to be one of the free or
pay mailing list servers. I use Listbot
(http://www.listbot.com/). Listbot is $99 a year,
with some cap on how many messages you can send
(but it's pretty liberal). It's also available for
free (which is the service I use, for an audience
of about 1000 users) if you're willing to accept
a two-line ad for the service attached to your
message. (The ads are pretty unobtrusive, they
don't insert third-party ads, and you're free to
add your own.) Topica also has a free plan, though
I don't know details. There are others of course-
-Topica.com is supposed to be quite good, and I
also think of Yahoo! Groups (formerly eGroups).
You configure the list as an announcement only
list (i.e. only the owner of the list gets to send)
and you have what you need.

It's important however that these really be opt-in
users. Otherwise you can get bumped from these
services if you're caught.
