DONALD WIHARDJA <donald_wihardja_at_mail.com> WROTE:
>Sorry to jump in, but I have to disagree with Ms. Brandi
>here on the just-hype-ness of wireless web.
... and then go on to *agree* with me? Please re-read
my statements in this thread. I don't mind at all when
people disagree with me (I enjoy it often enough) but
I do so hate it when someone distorts my position.
>WAP is a great idea with lousy implemenatation
I never said anything about "WAP". ... When speaking
in the negative, I was aiming solely at "Wireless
Advertising" - not wireless content or applications.
Someone here said that the VCs are primarily hot for
wireless advertising, and in light of the reaction
we've seen here to the very idea of wireless advertising,
I think they are going to be extreeeeemly disappointed.
People overwhelmingly do not want advertising on their
wireless devices. It won't work in the WAP model any more
than it will work directly, any more than it works on
the web. So what is their reasoning?
I suspect that the sole impetus behind the interest
shown in wireless advertising is the greed and stupidity
on the part of certain financiers who are hoping to turn
the stock market around. All they can think of is the past
5 years and are still stuck in the goldrush mentality.
Again, they are not thinking "business fundamentals".
None of them are asking what people really want - or
they'd be funding content and application development
instead.
>to the content provider. So yes, they provide zodiacs,
>subway maps, small entertainment items, whatever.
>With 17 million viewers, it has great potentials.
I _make money_ in wireless content. Is anyone else here
doing that? I provide horoscopes to Fido/Microcell in
Canada. I'm looking for other providers to partner with.
So I'd be a fool to be saying that wireless content has
no future.
"Wireless Content" has a BIG future.
