Tracking conversions can be a tricky thing.
Although web traffic analysis tools can do this for you
they can be difficult to implement and monitor. Like you
said, tracking your sales and getting reports on which
creative element and which site is performing best is not
an easy task.
We developed ADtagger to track post-click activity on an
advertiser's website allowing the advertiser to run
web based reports on which sites and banners are performing
best. Not only will you see how many users are coming from
a particular ad buy, but how much they are spending on your
site.
I don't know of a script that can do this for you. I believe
it would take more than one, though. There are ways of
issuing users a unique transaction ID based on their
referring URL but, unfortunately, I don't know how that
could be done. There are other issues to consider when
using something that is limited in its capabilities or not
exactly designed for the purposes you desire, i.e. The
tracking or filtering of residual actions and duplicates.
Hope this helps.
