I agree with Stephanie's main point, which was that
readers need to understand that most of the worthwhile
and free content on the Net is made possible by advertisers.

A key thing for advertisers to remember is that all of us
voluntarily and happily choose to look at advertising
almost every day. We do so when we see an ad that
intersects with one of our specific interests. Thus,
I would propose that improved targeting, not bigger ad
size, is the future for effective online advertising.

While I agree that larger ad sizes are probably imminent
I disagree that they are necessary or wise.

How long has it been since you clicked on a banner? How
long do you think it will take you to learn how to skim
over larger ad sizes as well? Once everyone has learned
how to ignore these super banners will we boost the size
again? And then again? The bigger is better approach is
ultimately a dead end street, isn't it?

Sincerely,
Phil
