According to the US Census Bureau the 5 to 17 population
for 1990(?) was 45 000 000. For simplicity's sake let's
assume that the 8 - 12 age groups is one third of it =
15 million kids. For them to spend a total of over 55
billion dollars, it would work out around $ 3,600 per
year or $ 300 per month...

How can an 8 year old spend $300 per month?

using the above numbers, it would work out something
around $11,000 per year per child........how much
would a family of 4 spend?????

and the median family income is around $ 35 000
per year...

aren't these numbers a bit on the "happy" side?
