You might get a bit more bang for the buck if you target
80% to news sources that are specifically interested
in the topic of your release, and 20% to newswires and
general media sources. Compile your list using a search
engine and your local bookstore. Basically find the list
by looking at relevant magazines, noting who is writing
what, and then send direct.
Your snail mail or faxed release should go to the editors
first, then after a week or so to the newswire. This gives
them a chance to get one up on the larger media groups
and makes your release more individual. Once someone
publishes your release, send a thank you and keep in
touch with that editor -- it could be your channel for
future PR.
Good luck!
Respectfully submitted,
Justin
