well, you are so right they don't.
As the web grows, automated search engines and
directories with small editorial staffs are unable to
cope with the volume of sites. The Open Directory
Project's (DMOZ.ORG) goal is to produce the most
comprehensive directory of the web, by relying on a
vast army of volunteer editors.
Like any community, you get what you give. The Open
Directory provides the opportunity for everyone to
contribute.
Signing up is easy: choose a topic you know something
about and join. Editing categories is a snap. We have
a comprehensive set of tools for adding, deleting,
and updating links in seconds. For just a few minutes
of your time you can help make the Web a better place,
and be recognized as an expert on your chosen topic.
Sites using Open Directory data - including Netscape,
Lycos, HotBot, and others
