Flash is not indexed by search engines. Hence, most
sites which make use of flash intros simply shoot
themselves in the foot and end up with very poor
rankings.
Altavista, however, just introduced a significant
ranking change this week, and people are still trying
to figure out what they did. But I doubt flash had
anything to do with it. Flash is not indexable. As
far as search engine optimization goes, relying on
flash intro pages is bad Web site design, although
there are ways to boost the rankings of flash pages
(i.e., use good, descriptive text in the title tag,
include an indexable text header tag, and include a
couple of sentences of indexable text above or
below the flash gizmo, and DON'T try to hide any of
it).
