While I agree with most of your argument below, I would
like to note that many people are beginning to use
Internet as integral part of services, NOT something
they pay separately. This happens more and more. Besides
cost of accessing the Net falls down all the time. Heck,
I've got 512k always on cable modem for only £33 month, I
could not even dream of that gear just a few years ago,
yet alone 10 years ago when FIDO connection at 4800
baud modem was a God given thing!

OH well, I guess I am too young and inexperienced to
know what FUNDAMENTAL purpose of the Net is! All I can
say is that I think its very different for different
people, and for my FUNDAMENTAL thing is that it can do
what _I_want, not what something else wants or thinks
fundamental purpose is. Its DIFFERENT for DIFFERENT
groups, no need to force just one opinion on all
of them.
