Privacy and anti-spam groups would go absolutely nuts with
software that automatically inserts advertising (rich
media, no less) into personal e-mail messages. Without
knowing much about your product, that is the big, giant
hurdle that pops right out at me.
On the other hand, it is not difficult to conceive of
certain business models where this technology would have
a role to play, namely those involving an explicit
ad-supported service (Hotmail, Topica or Yahoo! groups,
for instance) where users know going in that the cost of
using a service for free is carrying third-party ads. Yet
significant issues such as user fatigue and media
saturation with models based on regular or high frequency
usage, make this technology a tricky play.
Anyway, I'm interested in hearing more about the product
and your marketing plans.
