It's widely considered bad form to publicly criticize
anyone's grammar or spelling on a mailing list - for
a number of reasons. First off - it's rude (sorry,
Kenny. <g> - see - doesn't take the sting out, does
it?).
Second, though it was not meant to be rude or unkind
in this case, it's most often brought up when there is
an argument of some kind and the best one person can
do is say "Oh yeah? Well you said "there" instead of
"their" so you're a moron!" In other words, its often
a cheap shot. The best of us have an off day.
Finally - a mailing list is an informal discussion,
not "business email". We can all agree it's really bad
form to have spelling mistakes all over your web collateral
- but if anyone here thinks that everyone spends the same
time and consideration on every single post that they
do for their essays, articles and ebooks that they have
up for sale, they are grossly flattering themselves. Some
of us consciously treat mailing lists as a platform where
we may be judged by peers or potential clients, but most
are just enjoying the banter. Let it go - or make
corrections privately (I for one don't mind if someone
corrects my grammar - privately and constructively).
