I'm a Netscape Open Directory Listing editor
myself as well as a linking agent for many clients.
Bulk submission services are not appropriate
for a site of any substance or quality, and
you've correctly identified one glaring
hole in their offerings. Yahoo and Looksmart's
fees.
When submitting to a person, as you do when
submitting to yahoo and other directories,
NEVER use an auto submitter. Those submissions
never get anywhere near the listing editor.
They sure don't get near me.
Even the non human venues, like AltaVista, now
forbid autosubmissions.
So, one has to ask, if autosubmitters worked,
why would their submissions be blocked by
most major engines and never get near a human
listings editor? Because 99 out of 100 sites
submitted through an autosubmitter are junk.
