There is basic flaw in your statement.
The internet is not a mass medium in the sense that \
television, radio or metropolitan daily newspapers are.
The internet tends to be a medium of niches used by
individuals.
Web sites do not broadcast their messages to passive
audiences. Instead, individuals visit web sites to get
one, five, eleven, etc., percent of what the web site has
to offer that is new today, or what is needed by the user.
Assuming that the web site has content compelling enough
to attract repeat visitors (something which the vast
majority of web sites do not have), opt-in audio or video
ads delivered in the style of a password alert might be
accepted by repeat visitors already familiar and enamored
with the site's content, but would most likely be shunned
by new visitors unless the advertising message was
disclosed in advance and coincided with the user's
personal interests.
