Yes, it's true that submission is the easiest part
of search engine promotion. "Anyone" can submit to
a search engine, but that doesn't mean that your site
will be listed.
Is your site optimized for search engine spiders?
Are there roadblocks that are preventing engines
from indexing -- like a dynamic site with characters
such as "?" in the URL? Or is there so much code that
the spider won't even get to the text on the page
before leaving? Are you targeting users with the
right keywords or just guessing what they should be?
Submission services will not evaluate your site,
provide any research, compose your meta tags or
anything else.
You certainly get what you pay for. Don't waste your
marketing $ and time by using a service like this.
If you are going to market your own site, learn how
to optimize first and shoot for the best results in
order to make it worth your while. Write me if you
would like a copy of my Top 10 Mistakes in Search
Engine Optimization. No cost of course!

PS Yahoo directory requires that commercial sites
pay $199 for a review if submitting to either Business
and Economy: Business to Business or Business
and Economy: Shopping and Services.
