More visitors, more pages...what would you do?
Hello all.
I was wondering if you could give me your advice on
this.
I have a site that has been growing step by step on
the last 2 years. The content has been free and people
return to visit it frequently. I'm developing a new
version of the site and I'd like to start making money
from it if possible. Not sure if the moment is now or
not. I can continue with the site without making money
from it for a while without problems. That's because
the banners I have there are helping another of my
sites and strategies and the most important is that
I'm having fun because of that also!
I have been thinking on close some of the most visited
sections so only register people could access it. I
have not found information on how much audience could
be lost because of that. One guy on the industry told
me he thinks about 99% could go and left the site.
Even with that 1% could be a good beginning and the
site could start paying, finally, all his resources
(about 50 GB of transfer information each month, 8 GB
of disk space and a small dedicated server). That 1%
is because my market is mainly people that still is
afraid of using credit cards on the Internet or ,
most important, that do not have credit cards at all.
According to the stats (from the logs) the site has
been growing about a 7% each month (against the prior
month)
Your advice:
What would you do in my case? (if advice based in
"real life" experiences the best, thanks)
- Let the site to consolidate even more on the market
and think about close it later, maybe another year?
- Take the risk now and close it and start getting
money from it?
- Look for alternatives on getting money from it
besides the subscription schema? Ideas?
Thanks in advance.
