Use headfones, just like I do. The extra upside is that
you don't hear your boss when he shouts at you.

Seriously, you are the only person who controls your
computer -- turn off your sound, or lower/mute it,
or use headfones.

If you want audio control on per application basis,
then it can fairly easily be programmed.
