The "network of sites" theory is working pretty good for
me as well. My ad server provides ads and an banner
exchange for sites wishing to reach business owners.
It mainly helps increase link density and keeps a
specific audience withing a group of related sites.
Keeping the quality of the network high seems to keep
the CTR reasonable at 0.5% and higher network wide.

Of course I will sell additional impressions to exchange
members or support special promotions they may have at
$25cpm, but pretty much the network is a private
traffic network. Remember each site in this banner
exchange is looking for business owners and their key
employees, this is a b-to-b exchange and I am very
strict on inclusion -- that is why the results are so
good for standard sized banners (i.e. 468x60, 120x60,
and 125x125).

Just like any advertising, it seems targeting and testing
really makes a difference here as well -- also placement
makes a big difference, banners should enhance the users
experience and complement content. Has anyone else had
success in the banner exchange area or with banner for
that matter?

Warmest regards,

Justin Hitt
