Serving your own ads

Hi,

I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now and
there seems to be a lot of discussion about running
banner ads. However, I haven't seen any mention of cgi
programs that can be installed at your website to
automatically rotate banner ads.

I have had a need for such a program, so I looked at
what was available and the pricing/feature set for
various programs.

Just in case anyone is interested, I'm in the process
of developing a cgi program to perform that function.
I know there are other programs available to do this
and I've tried most of them. Some of them are fairly
expensive, costing hundreds of dollars or more, some
of them don't really work well and others are just
too complicated to use or lack desired features.

As a result of looking at what's currently available
in this area and finding the results described above,
I have begun development of a simple to install, simple
to use, low cost cgi program for displaying banner ads.
Here are some of the features:

1. Easily configurable to your server - just edit a
few lines in a text file and you're through.

2. Online administration of ads through password
   protected webpage.

3. Ad custom code for each banner that determines how
the user's browser will act upon clicking of the
banner. For example, will a new window open or
will the destination URL be displayed in the current
   window?

4. Each banner can be set to display more or less than
other banners, on a scale of 1 to 10. Setting
individual banners to a higher number would mean
that the banner would be displayed more frequently.

5. Set for automatic removal after a certain number of
viewings. For example, if you wish, you can specify
that a particular banner be shown for a total of
10,000 times. Once that limit has been reached, the
banner will no longer be displayed. This feature is
useful if you ant to sell banner space on your web
pages and limit the number of displays.

6. Also, you can specify that a certain banner only be
displayed on a certain web page. For example, if you
have more than one web page, you may want certain
banners only to appear on one of the pages. Setting
this up is as easy as indicating the URL of the
desired page, using the online administrative
   interface page.

This banner rotater program should be complete within a
few days. If anyone is interested in obtaining a copy,
I'll make it available at a very attractive price (less
than a hundred dollars).
