We have gotten better results from keyword purchase than
from any other net promo vehicle. They beat email
newsletters, site sponsorships, banners, etc. hands
down. Cost is cheap. Response in site traffic is better
than anything else out there, in our experience.
Recommendations? GoTo is #1. Its keyword hits appear on
other sites. You will need to monitor it periodically
to be sure you are not paying too high a bid price on
your words.
Also, advertising benefits from beign watched with a log
file analyzer. We use our own software, WinBatch, to
combine our different log files. WebTrends then produces
a combined report.
Anyone who wants a file combination script can email me.
For us, the second best net promotion is optimizing
pages for search engines. Pay per click keyword searches
and page optimization are both cheap and effective for
us. A $ 2,700 ad in a focussed trade magazine (print)
might pull 50 clicks while a $200 expense with GoTo
pulls in 1,800 clicks. Search engines produced 7,500
clicks at next to no cost.
We cannot judge quality of clicks, but these gross
numbers tell the story as we see it.
Go for the high response-low cost
route first. Then blow cash on frills.
