Advertising on a pay per click (PPC) engine can be a
very effective form of advertising.

Many advertisers take advantage of the low $.01
starting bids to draw high volume, targetted traffic.
However, if you are buying placement for a competitive
industry, a single click can easily cost you over $1.00.
(For an example, visit goto.com and do a search for
'online casino' or 'data recovery'). You then have
think about how much you can earn from a sale and how
many visitors it takes to generate that sale.

All PPC engines consist of a do-it-yourself interface.
If you are buying hundreds of keywords, you can often
download an excel spreadsheet, fill out the spreadsheet
with listing details, and submit back to the engine so
you don't have to spend hours entering keywords. Before
being listed, some of them will require pre-approval of
keywords, titles, descriptions, and site content to
ensure relevancy. Approvals typically take 3-5 business
days.

The best place to buy this type of advertising would
depend on your budget and product. You will get the
most amount of clicks through Goto.com, due to their
partnerships with portals such as Altavista, Lycos, AOL,
Netscape, etc. However, your minimum bid price will be
$.05, unlike the low $.01 offered at all the other PPC
engines. Others that offer a minimum $.01 bid are as
follows:

  Findwhat.com
  Sprinks.com
  Ah-ha.com
  Kanoodle.com
  7search.com
  Epilot.com

A well-thought out list of keywords bidded at $.01 or
$.02 will often bring you great results. You can use the
following utility to create your list:

  http://inventory.goto.com

You simply select the keyword or category you are
interested in and it will return relevant keywords
ranked by the number of times used.

Hope that helps.
