Let me stoke a few fires ... CJ or BeFree or
LinkShare? ... the choice is irrelevant ... the model
is flawed. These companies will not last if they
continue with their current business model. Why? The
answer is simple. Because the affiliates don't make
a reasonable return for the space they provide. Am I
wrong with this statement? Let's hear someone write
in that is an affiliate publisher and tell us how
happy they are with the revenue they receive each
month. And, if one does... let's hear from 2! ... We
received an "award" a year ago from CJ as one of their
"top 1%" (ok, maybe it was top 5% .. I don't recall...
but it was whatever their top affilate publisher
designation at the time was) and we still couldn't
justify providing the space for the revenue received
and left them shortly thereafter ... what in the world
are the other 95% or 99% thinking? (We recently tried
a few more extremely targeted CJ ads with similar
results and have taken them down).
So, there's my prediction ... let's hear it from the
affiliate lovers camp (and I am speaking about the
publisher's side not the advertiser's side). Is
anybody making a reasonable return for the space
they provide?
FYI, my last prediction (was it here or on our twin
daily email from adam at i-advertising) was that
GOTO.com would back off its 5 cent min for existing
bids... which they did today ... so, will I be 1 for
2 or 2 for 2? ...
