Re: The Potential of Banner Ads
Over the last year I have heard that the banner is dead,
over and over and over. It seems to me that people
would much rather gripe about something than be
constructive. Am I the only person that is thinking,
'Okay, banner ads arn't working anymore so how can we
re-invent them to make them more effective?'
I believe that interactivity and fun is what consumers
are looking for, so why not give them what they want.
The reason that banner ads are dead is simply because
they are an annoyance, something that flashes in the
corner of your eye. What's worse is that when you
click on it you are then taken on a mysery tour to a
site that you have no interest in. Why not give
something back to the user? I think that the film
Field Of Dreams got it on the nose (although on a
totally different subject), "If you build it they will
come!"
Of course, this is just my opinion, although I have
heard people saying that interactive and rich media
is the future of the Internet. If you would like to
see an excellent example of how we can re-invent the
banner please visit www.thedarksidestudios.com
Interactive, fun, eye-catching, small (12K)and
effective!
So please can we all stop winging about the static or
animated banner ad, let it rest in peace!
