Other company names in your news releases

I'm a fan of writing a news release as a story a
journalist or website can pick up and could even reprint
verbatim without it looking like advertorial.

But as a self-taught beginner in this field, I have a
question for the pros out there. Does anyone have any
advice with regard to citing other companies/trademarks
in a news release?

I'd like to put out a release summarizing my findings
on the relative online popularity (as a search term)
of different professional golfers. In doing so, I
would inevitably mention people like Tiger Woods,
Arnold Palmer and others.

Am I likely to run into legal trouble for exploiting
the names of others for my own (theoretical) financial
gain, since my intention is to drive traffic and
interest to a site not associated with these names
(a directory of annotated links to websites and
online resources related to specific golfers)? Or am
I being over-careful?
