Unfortunately I don't have a solution for your problem, but
I just wanted to wanr you about Alexa's stats as I did few
months ago when last time people discussed about Alexa
in this list.
As their stats are based on browser attachment that users
voluntarily install, their stats tend to go wrong because of
many reasons. Some points:
-this kind of "browsing assistants" tend to be much, much
more popular among tech-savvy users and specially
among webmasters/developers which causes the problem
that they don't represent the real Net population's
demographics.
-for top 100 sites or so, the ranking is relatively good,
although there are some issues ever now and then (oh yeah,
Alexa's own site tends to be in top 10 :-)
-sites that are in between 10,000 and 200,000 in Alexa's
stats don't have any meaning whatsoever because in this
category just two or three users with Alexa assistant in
their browsers can push one site tens of thousands of
places higher than it really should be.
Our statistics server which has permissions for three
unique users (controlled by IP blocks and login/passwords)
just made its way to top 20k in Alexa charts from being in
top 50k for 6 months :-) We check our stats almost 24/7 and
all of us have Alexa installed --> problems :-)
