Permission or should I get out more?

After buying event tickets online, I have since been
inundated by snail mail offers from the organizers and
their friends. To my surprise, I found myself
spontaneously uttering the thought, "hey, I never gave
you permission to send me postal offers."

I'm sure my reaction is not representative of the wider
population, and will probably elicit a collective guffaw
from marketers (nevertheless, it was a genuine reaction).

Is there any evidence that intolerance of email junk mail
is having an impact on attitudes to "traditional" direct
mail, or do I just need to get out more?
