Re: Mini-logos in browsers' "favorite links" files?
[Moderator's Note: There were so many replies on this
subject that I've consolidated many of them into
this single post. Thanks to everyone that contributed.]

One of the best resources I've found on this subject,
with a clear tutorial and other great tools related
to this subject, visit:
http://www.jamesshuggins.com/h/web1/favicon.htm
JAMIE KRASNOO <krasnooj_at_socal.rr.com> WROTE:
You use a program to create an icon file (.ico) and
place it in the Document Root of the website. A good
program to do this with is Microangelo
(http://www.impactsoft.com/default.htm).
THOMAS CARRENO <thomas_at_warmfeelings.com> WROTE:
This is an easy one. To find out everything you
possibly need to know about those little logos, the
creation of them and the steps necessary to have them
show up when your site is bookmarked, simply visit:

JULIA ZAVILEYSKAYA <jul_at_dataart.com> WROTE:
You can create such icon, but you should do it in
special format, actually you should use special
editor for it. For example AX Icons 4.5 at
http://www.axialis.com/
TODD SAMPSON <tsampson_at_unitymarketing.com> WROTE:
First, you will need to create the icon itself.
Since the image is an icon, and not a standard gif/jpeg,
you will need to use an icon program to create the file.
You can get a 20-day trial of Icon Forge from
Download.com for free.
DANIEL FIERRO <daniel_at_nothing.com> WROTE:
Here's an article that tells you how to do it:
<http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/Author/dhtml/howto/ShortcutIcon.asp>
DAVID VAN DER MERWE <david.vandermerwe_at_adtagger.com> WROTE:
What you are looking for is called "Favicon". The
following article tells you exactly what you need
to do to make it work.
http://www.webmasterbase.com/article.php/33
If anyone else out there questions whether creating
your own favicon this is even worthwhile, take a
look at your error logs and see how many times your
logo has not been placed in your visitors' favorites
list.
LEON MERGEN <leon_at_blazebox.com> WROTE:
In the website, include the following HTML code
between the <head></head> tags:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://url.to/favicon.ico">
