Re: Is the internet a "good" place to do business?
I've lurked for a while, just taking it all in.
I just want to comment on a couple things.
As far as the "is the internet a good place to do
business?" For some people it is and others it is
not. Foe example some people get direct deposit
with their paycheck, others deposit it with the
ATM and still others (like me), like to stand in
line and talk to my banker each week. One way is
not right or wrong, people just have different
likes, same with the Internet. Some fell comfortable
shopping on-line, some just don't.
As far as the cpa, cpc, cpx cp bla bla bla, it is a
dying theory. You don't go to a newspaper or TV
station and say I'll pay you based on how many
people buy my product or how many people come in my
store. If the campaign or ad is ineffective it just
might be the ad design/what it says, the product or
even, duh, the price. Putting the onus on the web site
to provide quality hits or a purchase based on a
(usually poorly designed blinking GIF) ad is bull_hit
(or just plane stink'n think'n). Web ad space needs to
be sold just like a print or TV/Radio ad space. A flat
rate based on distribution or run time. With the advent
of Macromedia's Flash and its ability to create TV like
web advertisements, ROI's and Click thru rate will
rise. But some companies need to understand that the
web is a superb branding medium and it's potential is
yet to be even explored. The web is still in its infancy.
As far as my firm, we design and place web ads or did.
We have just pulled back from pushing web ads on our
clients right now. I don't care if it is a buyers market
when everything settles and comes correct we will jump
back into the fray. There is enough work doing other
things on the web right now!
