Re: Paid content strategies
"The Queen of all Paid Content" here --
(thanks for the plug Andy), I'm on my way out the
door to @d:tech in NYC, but will send in a
post with useful info on the Case Studies
I've covered on this topic later in the week.
In the meantime, OutSell Inc who are the leading
consultants in the licensed-content-to-libraries
world (which is over a billion dollars a year)
announced today that their research shows single
article sales (the pay-per-view model) are going
to be the big killer app in that marketplace
next year, replacing subscriptions to databases
and wires. Umm, we'll see.
Plus, Circulation Management Magazine just ran a
column from subscription sales expert Chip Block
entitled, "Is Paid Circulation Dead?" -- because
consumer magazine publishers are making $10 billion
(yes that's 10 billion with a "b") a year in the US
selling subscriptions and single copies ... but because
they rely mainly on old-fashioned, expensive direct
mail to do it, it's costing them at least $9.5 billion
in marketing. Ouch!
So, yeah people pay for content (many consumers
don't distiguish between the media it arrives in -
it's all information) and yeah it's a big marketplace
and yeah stuff's changing.
Later!
