Loyalty to Brand or Content

I was interviewing Alan Meckler of Internet.com last week
( interview's at:
http://www.smallbiztechnology.com/sbtr/alanmecklerinterview.htm ) and he
was explaining to me that a content based Web site's emphasis should be on
the content and not the brand of the media. He explained how an
Internet.com property Searchenginewatch.com was profiled in a NY Times
Circuits piece and not once did it mention Internet.com. He said many Wall
Streeters and Analysts will say push the brand as that's what's most
important meaning - Internet.com's Searchenginewatch.com...... type of thing.

So I'm wondering should I be pushing Small biz tech news for example or
Smallbiztechnology.com?

He explained how we watch TV shows - that's what draws us in. I know we
often don't even know what shows are on what networks - but we do know the
shows and the times of the shows.

So what should content Web media push - their brands or their content or both?
