Hello - I am the CEO/Owner of a company called
Skateboard.com. We haven't ever tried to sell
ads or sponsorships outside our industry for
several reasons:
1) we've focused primarily on e-commerce sales
2) by virtue of our location in San Diego, we're
out of the loop where all the big ad dollars are spent
3) we don't have anyone in-house with any experience
in ad sales
4) we signed up with a lousy network about a year and
a half ago and saw such crummy results that I basically
wrote it off as a viable revenue stream
We've grown significantly since that time and the market's
probably changed (though I haven't been watching too
closely). I'm just checking in to see if it might now pay
off to pursue ads/sponsorships as an alternate revenue
stream. We're up to 9-10 million page views/month and
260,000 members (150,000 of which are signed up to receive
e-mail newsletters).
I guess my questions are:
1) Does anyone have a feel for the revenue potential of our site?
2) Is there any "low hanging fruit" that we aren't exploiting?
3) What's the cost to start pursuing this as a new revenue stream?
4) What kind of person should I look for if we want to start
pursuing this avenue?
5) What industries should be on the shortlist for potential
sponsorship deals?
Note - we've had many conversations with industry players and
they have little interest in online ads, so it'd have to be
outside the industry.
Thanks - Lloyd Jobe
