More on Yahoo Grandfathering
I haven't seen a definitive explanation from Yahoo
regarding annual fees for existing listings, but here
is what some of the search engine watching geeks are
saying:
"The annual fee is only charged for sites submitted on
or after December 28, 2001. If you got listed before
this, congratulations! You've escaped the annual fee.
Yahoo wouldn't say as much, but it is almost certain
sites submitted before December 28 have escaped the
annual fee for legal reasons. After all, when they
signed up, the listing fee was essentially presented
as a one time charge."
This, while not confirmed, does make sense for those
who paid the Express fee, since it was presented as a
one-time fee. However, those who paid no fee and got
listed (back in the truly "free" days), might still be
subject to the annual fee, since they never had that
original payment.
