The Yahoo results page is made up of over 10
different source databases that the search term
was passed through.
As of now there are several ways a site can
appear in Yahoo results without that site
being in the Yahoo paid directory. Here are
the non-Yahoo directory databases that all
Yahoo searches are passed through
1). Yahoo! Shopping
2). Overture
3). Google
4). Northern Light
The search term is also pre-loaded into
clickable links from several other sources,
including
Yahoo! Yellow Pages (pd)
News (various sources, some free some wire services paid)
Full Coverage (editorial, tough to be selected)
Thus there are many ways to be found by
a Yahoo searcher without being listed within
the Yahoo directory proper. However, in the
long run these others may not be permanent,
as Yahoo can pull the plug whenever they want
on these other non-yahoo databases. For
example, it's only a matter time before Yahoo
ends the Overture deal and rolls their own PPC
product.
