Also have heard decent things about
Cheetah mail and Opt-in Inc. as alternatives to
the bigger more expensive services.

I have this to say: those "expensive" services have
nothing more than the services you mentioned (Cheetah
Mail). The problem is that many of them were created
during the DotCom Boom and they don't have business
models that can appropriately deal with the real rates
of today. I've had people say to me "We can't send out
that CPA offer, because it costs us $4 CPM to send out
offers via email." $4 CPM!!! What a monumental rip-off.
Dave, I have put together packages in which third
party mail providers will provide these services for FREE.
Not only will you have third party mailing provided for
you, but all optouts, complaints etc will be taken care.
On top of that, we handle all the campaigns, revenue
dispersement, collections etc. Absolutely no overhead.

For the gentleman who wanted to spend $10 to test a
campaign: I hate to point this out, but $10 doesn't test
a campaign. It pays perhaps for the technician who puts
up the ads to perhaps go to the bathroom. Testing a
campaign means seeing more than $10 worth of ads run _
there are time issues, day issues, and a variety of other
issues. If you are looking to spend $10 to test
advertising, go to Kinkos, copy 1000 flyers, go to the
street corner and hand them out. You should get a good
response and you might get a date out of it.
And Mark, I hate to be brutally honest here (well,
actually, I don't). PowerPackedAds.com _ I sincerely hope
the advertisements that your product creates are better
than the examples you gave. Before you market a marketing
product, make it marketable in the first place _ a clipart
drawing you found on the web doesn't portray competance.
Let's also hope you have a kick-ass attorney, because
Unicast is suing those people that they think violate
their patents and your product fits the description.
And now, since I've been away a while, and haven't
really posted anything on this list. If I see another
argument about CPM vs. CPA vs. CPC, I think I am going
to be required to virtually gag! I get the emails from
this list forwarded for my newsletter with the most
humorous comments, and I can't honestly believe that
people really are interested in hearing this old-age
argument over and over again. Let's make a deal: we'll
create two more mailing lists, one for people who hate
CPA, and the others who think it's the absolutely bomb.
