Re: What's ahead

Having worked for a local newspaper Website, and
currently working for a local TV Web site, I'd like
to weigh in on the subscription concept. The big
problem selling advertising right now, is lack of
audience. Even a successful local newspaper site
might reach less than 50,000 people. That's just
barely enough audience to make advertising
worthwhile, especially since some of them AREN'T
local (folks who used to live in the town visit the
site to "keep up").

Subscriptions will lower the audience. If you can't
reach as many users as the printed version, with a
FREE product, why do you think folks will pay
for the same information? Especially if there are
other Web sites in the local market providing info
for free.

My 2 cents
