Re: iBill's new extra charge - and where else to go
Regarding the Ibill Checkboxes....
I subscribe to Online Ads Digest and found this post
in the mail. In case you are wondering who I am, I
work in the adult industry and knew about the check-
boxes within hours of their being put up.
I know you guys with the digest don't talk porn, but
you must realize that the majority of Ibills ( Big
Money ) customers are porn sites. Several of these
sites turn 1,000,000 + a month with initial/recurring
charges. And thats not to mention the THOUSANDS of
accounts that turn less, yet still a substantial
amount of money. Want to know what the check-boxes
are for? To me, and many others it is obvious. Ibill
as well as many other large CC processing merchants
such as Epoch and Ccbill are having trouble with charge-
backs. The Adult industry is straining against Credit
card fraud ( webmasters and surfers alike ) and of
course this reaches the top level tiers of CC processors
and affects them greatly. The check-boxes added without
consent are there for a simple reason. To create an
additional transaction that will not be charged back.
Who is going to charge back to a charity? For a dollar
no less? Their stance is obviously one of desperation,
as the only possible reason they would shoot themselves
in the foot with their various webmaster affiliates by
adding such a thing, is if they need to lessen their
charge-back % by adding more transactions. Anyone who
possesses a merchant account understands this completely.
Ibill adding those boxes is a bad sign for all of us.
Does anyone here remember DMR? I believe they were
mainly a large adult processor, but when they folded,
thousands of webmasters were left with a decimated
member base, income that dried up overnight, and for
the most part it was a fiasco that ruined many people
financially.
One last thing, Ibill is dropping the boxes from their
major account holders who ask, but if you are not a
major account holder, and you request removal, you will
get a form letter explaining that the boxes cannot be
removed at this time. This is Bad. It reeks of desperation,
the fact that they WILL not remove the boxes when asked.
Of course this will all change. The Depth of the furor
that is rising within their affiliates will of course
have them changing tactics and getting rid of the boxes,
but if not, they will lose many affiliates, build up
their transaction numbers with the check-boxes, and
again be on stable footing with their charge-back to
transaction ratios.
Sincerely
Charles Lambert
