Re: Looking for Banner Seller And Server
Hello Peter,
Burst Media always had great references. I called almost
half of their inventory in late 2001 investigating their
quality. They will do a 50/50 split. However, the chances
are that they will drastically devalue your banners.
However, if your intention is to move away from selling
your own banners, Burst Media is probably one of the most
reputable to date. All of their publishers claimed they
received regular checks.
You should have them commit to a certain "volume of sales"
or you have the right to have another third party resell
banners for you. As Burst will lock you into a two to
three year exclusive contract.
Question 2: How much does a banner devalue a site?
1. If the banner serving technology is set-up wrong the
red "x" for "image not found" can be negative
2. The banner load time may slow down your website for
slower modem viewers
3. Adult, gambling, and poorly designed banners cause
headaches, publically and internally (where investor
opinions are important)
4. Traffic will not change drastically provided the
above three circumstances are avoided
How do you avoid these circumstances? You can't avoid 1
and 2, but 3 is a matter of policy. Every banner exchange
on the planet drops banners and or has system failures or
upgrades. I have had the pleasure of hammer testing
almost every technology and most the times it is when
someone using "Dart" or "Adknowledge" delivery systems
interfaced with "Burst Media" or another banner serving
technology, causes a failure by either the tracking
serving technology or the "generic ad serving technology"
causing problems, thus doubling the chances of banner
image failure. In some cases, the banner serving
technology crashes for a few minutes or hours based on
the time of day and network traffic. The Caching issue
causes some banner serving problems as well, but I
believe that Burst Media has this common error "less"
than other unsuffisticated ad serving technologies.
Sonar was another network I used quite frequently,
however, I am almost positive they wouldn't take an
individual publisher like yourself, they would sooner
just go to Burst and buy your "ad space" through them.
(Sonar is a subsiduary of Double Click (I believe),
and is "Double Click" inventory centric.)
I hope this knowledge helps.
Sincerely,
