Having had to implement some voodoo magic in our technology
around P3P, I can say that the major thing it effects is
the ability to set cookies in the browser. While adserving
technology can greatly benefit from cookie use, it is not a
requirement to properly function (after all, many people
disable cookies in their entirety).
I'm a little bit confused as to why IE6 is blocking a
doubleclick cookie. The default IE6 setting was, last I
checked, to deny cookies if they did not have a proper
P3P implementation in place, which from a publisher
standpoint (and thus an adserving prospective) is
relatively easy to implement. Last I checked,
Doubleclick had implemented one. What version of IE6
are you using? Perhaps those default security settings
were made more restrictive in later builds, and
something in the P3P policy itself is causing the
cookies to be blocked.
I'm going to update my IE6 computer and try a few sites
with various technology and see who it affects and who
it doesn't. I'll let you know what I find!
Cheers!
