Re: Is Email Marketing Dead?

My first post. The problem with many "online marketing
companies" is that they harvest email addresses. They
have spiders, or use software spiders (not that hard to
write if you can program) that crawl domains, message
boards, search engines, etc. If the purchased list was
obtained by that method, you are going to get some very
angry responses, and rightly so, I don't need to refinance
my mortgage, add 3 inches, increase performance, or
work from home and earn thousands. People are not like
that, people get annoyed, and when they get an email with
a legit return address, they let loose. I do, and do not
feel bad about it in the least.

I have had several of my email addresses harvested, ones
that are on my company website that are only used there,
so now there is a couple sales@... emails I receive.

I think if you buy a list, say a couple of million email
addresses, you should suspect that they were harvested.
Buying focused groups cost more and can still get angry
responses, but at least its that person's fault for
not reading closely when creating an account.

The best thing to do is add the company you bought the
list from, that way people can get themselves removed
easier. Be courteous and people will thank you for it.
