Re: Why all the tiny print?
Kathy adds ->
There is no "single" answer as to why type on a web
site might look "too small."
Sites designed on PCs may have unreadable type when
viewed on a Macintosh if the designer isn't
knowledgeable about cross-platform issues. This is
because type is rendered ~30% larger on the PC (Macs
use 72 pixels to 72 points; PCs use 96).
The designer might have specified a face/family that
is not optimized for screen reading.
Often, designers set font size to "small" or "1" -
the browser's smallest. This is *bad design* when
used for anything that people might actually *read*.
It could be, also, that you are viewing sites on
very high rez monitor. As the rez goes up, the font
size goes down, pixels get smaller and type gets
harder to read.
Highly recommend using Opera, as there is a little
"enlarge" feature to the right of the location bar
-- very accessible -- that quickly makes type
readable (images don't scale well, however). Opera
also lets you turn off animations. ;-)
