Okay, you want to hear another viewpoint?
I use mini-pops on my branding site (http://www.robfrankel.com)
and my book site (http://www.RevengeofBrandX.com) . Little
windows, no more than a few hundred pixels across and deep.
I don't mind pops like this because -- despite the fact that
I'm right in the middle of a major metropolitan area -- I have
no broadband availability. So these little guys load quickly
and neatly in the top corner of my screen.
I happen to use them to summarize the site (of course, to
pitch products, too) in case other dial-uppers are in the same
boat as me. One is an entrance pop up, the other's an exit pop
up -- in case they get tired of waiting for my site to load.
Little windows are okay by me. It's the x-10 elephants that
cause us misery.
