Is in-house a threat?

I'm researching for an article and would really
appreciate your help. I attended a conference in
NY where representatives from different interactive
ad agencies were discussing some of the challenges
they face today, and one is: their costumers prefer
 to do their own online campaigns.

I would like to hear from some of you who might p
refer to do your own than hire an agency, as well as
from those of you who believe using an agency is
much more effective. If you are an interactive or
online agency and have something to ad to this
discussion I would greatly appreciate your input.
So, tell me what you guys think!
